ABOUT AYURVEDA

About

Ayurveda is the oldest system of health care in the world, having been the traditional medicine of India for at least 5000 years.

It is a medical science deeply focused on healing and maintaining the quality and longevity of life; Ayur meaning life and Veda meaning science or knowledge.

Ayurveda supports individuals to create a state of balance and harmony in the body and mind by understanding that each person is unique and that, on this basis, everyone's path to optimal health is different.

When the body and mind are in harmony we are able to function at our best; this is when restoration and healing can take place.

Our physiology is defined by three forces, or Doshas.

The first is Vata, which dictates motion in the body, the second is Pitta, which governs metabolism, and the third is Kapha, which controls structure . We are all comprised of a combination of these three Doshas, which fluctuate depending on how we live our lives.

Ayurveda aims to maintain and restore the proper balance of these physiological forces through healthy living.

Ayurveda is a complete and holistic way of life, comprised of nutrition, yoga, massage, detoxification, herbal remedies, meditation and daily lifestyle.

Through all of these things in combination, Ayurveda aims to improve a person's health, wellbeing, behaviour and state of mind.

Ayurveda works on the idea that there is no universal diet or lifestyle choices that benefit everyone, it has to be tailored to the individual based on their constitution .

However, it may take only minor changes in lifestyle, diet and how we connect to the environment to achieve a healthy and balanced life.
